January 12, 2017, 12:00 am

Grand Traverse Academy will host a VEX robotics regional qualifier tournament, “Winter Luau,” on Saturday, January 14, featuring 40 teams from 16 schools.  Over 150 leading middle and high school robotics students and their mentors from Belding, Bellaire, Grandville, Kingsley, Onaway, Petoskey, Rochester Hills and the Traverse City area will unite at Grand Traverse Academy on Saturday, January 14 for Grand Traverse Academy’s “Winter Luau” VEX Robotics Qualifier.

The doors open at 7:30 am, with an opening ceremony at 9:35 and qualification matches beginning at 9:55.  The action-packed tournament will feature 40 teams from 16 schools competing with and against each other in a series of back-to-back robot challenges.  Participants will compete by strategically executing the VEX “Starstruck” challenge game, operating robots they designed, built and programmed from the ground up using the VEX Robotics Design System.  As Grand Traverse Academy’s third annual tournament, this official Michigan VEX High School/Middle School State Qualifying Event will determine five qualification spots for the State Championship at Michigan State University on February 19.

The event is free and open to the public and spectators are encouraged!
